User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:67.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/67.0

Steps to reproduce:

This image for example: http://share.matriksdata.com/Images/201906122137572239.png

It loads instantly all at onces on IE. But on Firefox, it start loading from top.. then middle.. then bottom.

I00 Mbps connection
Windows 10 x64
i7-4770K, 32GB RAM, SSD

Cache is not the matter as I am loading images first time.

Tried 66, 67, 68beta

Expected results:

The image should load ALL AT ONCE instead of bits by bits.

Attached image Image Loading

Here is an example of how the image loads...

Like in 1995.

Hi,

I have tested your issue on latest FF release 67.0.2 and latest Nightly build 69.0a1 (2019-06-17) and could not reproduce it.
If the issue is still reproducible on your end, can you please retest this using latest FF release and latest Nightly build (https://nightly.mozilla.org/) and report back the results? When doing this, please use a new clean Firefox profile (https://goo.gl/AWo6h8), maybe even safe mode (https://goo.gl/AR5o9d), to eliminate custom settings as a possible cause.

Thank you for your report.

Thank you Alin.

These are all clean installs without any existing profiles.

It is the same in nightly. I ran it in a clean VMware container.

I am not understanding what is causing this to happen in Firefox while it does not happen in anything else. In fact I forgot even images could load like this. First time I am trying Firefox and I am surprized at this behaviour.

Cached image is fine. First time it is like this.

It is not only the site above. It is like this for all images for the first time.

Try this one.

Another Firefox user confirmed it is loading top-down, whereas it draws instantly on IE.

I went all the way to FF 2.0 and same behaviour. Same behaviour with latest Chrome as well.

My understanding is that IE is waiting for the image to finish prior to showing it. Whereas Firefox is showing it as it comes.. Like in dialups of 1995.

This is not smooth or fluid user experience where fast internet is everywhere.

In fact, I feel nauseous with everything moving everywhere with this browser.

Not all of us are schoolchildren, some of us use our browsers for work and we are not using mobile phones or dialups.

Is there a way to switch off this behaviour? "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" did not do it for me, as it delays everything.

Hi,

I have managed to reproduce the issue on latest Release version 67.0.4 and latest Nightly build 70.0a1 (2019-07-08) using Windows 10, but it's happening just when the image is loaded for the first time in my case, then the image is loaded properly like in IE.
I will move this over to a component so developers can take a look over it and give us an opinion if this is a valid issue or not or if there is a way to switch off this behavior. If is not the correct component please feel free to change it to an appropriate one.

Thanks for the report.

Hi Alin,

As explained:

  1. Happenning only to non-cached images (first time like you mentioned)
  2. Happens all the way to Firefox 2 ( I tried 10 different versions maybe).
  3. Happens latest version of Chrome as well.
  4. DOES NOT HAPPEN IN IE. (instant loading of full image)
  5. DOES NOT HAPPEN IN EDGE. (instant loading of full image)
Priority: -- → P5

Same on 77.

Severity: normal → S3
