User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:67.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/67.0

Steps to reproduce:

Opened Firefox bookmarks and immediately there was a flood of downloaded
"bookmarks" from the Firefox Bookmark folder and its contents. I tried to delete them, I finally did, and unchecked the book mark sync function. but the entries returned with a vengance.

Actual results:

Multiple copies of the Firefox/Mozilla Folder and it's contents. filled the Bookmarks file. This was with sync on or off. If sync was on, it contaminated the bookmarks folder of all my devices (iPhone, iPad)

Expected results:

Only one copy of the Firefox bookmark folder should be present. I should not keep replicated. It is not present on my phone or tablet but it is a problem on my HP
Windows 10 Laptop and Desktop computer.

Component: Untriaged → Sync

I don't understand the problem description. Even with sync disconnected, you see a "flood of downloaded bookmarks" which, when deleted, return with a vengeance? I'm also not sure what "Multiple copies of the Firefox/Mozilla Folder and it's contents. filled the Bookmarks file" means.

Would it be possible for you to describe exactly what goes wrong when Sync is disconnected and not involved at all? If we can get a picture of the problem without Sync involved, it might help us determine what is going wrong here?

I'm going to give you a screen shot of what is happening on my HP Laptop and hope that you will see what I mean. These "bookmarks" seem to be manufactured by the Firefox program. I have tried to delete them and they seem to be cleared, but return in the same numbers whenever I am on Firefox.

Unfortunately I am unable to import the screenshot to this screen. I can send it via an attachment to an email if you will furnish me with an email address. Thanks GSM

You can send it to me via markh @ mozilla dot com - but it is very important to differentiate between what happens when sync is connected vs what happens when it is not - so please ensure the screenshot is the problem you have when sync is not connected.

From Galen via email:

Here is the screen shot with the attachment. The problem began when the sync function was on (checked) After I did an initial clear out, I disabled the sync function on my desk top and lap top computers. I reinstalled Firefox on my iPhone and iPad they were initially affected, but cleared on re-installation. I also reinstalled the program on both my laptop and desktop computers. in the past two day, the problem appears to at least be abating. Since I stopped the syncing there have been fewer copies, but at least initially, the problem continued. It might have been a sync problem and the occurrence afterward was copies in the buffer(?) being loaded on. I hope that this explanation is sufficient. The screen shot was taken on my laptop earlier today, and the problem seems to be ongoing on my laptop at least.
