User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:67.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/67.0

Steps to reproduce:

One of these steps:

  • Just start Firefox (either in normal mode or --safe-mode)
  • Follow a link (say, in a browser) and open it in another tab

Actual results:

Near 100% CPU occupation, normally in 'chunks' of about 2-3 seconds. See screenshot. This continues for several minutes, then subsides, but at times restarts with no browser activity.

Expected results:

Just load the new page with little delay.

Extra tests: 1)delete the sqlite file corresponding to the profile, 2) create new profile, 3) upgraded from 67.0 to 67.0.2, 4) enabled hardware acceleration, 5) 'refresh Firefox'

Infrequently - seemingly unrelated, I get
Fontconfig warning: Directory/file mtime in the future. New fonts may not be detected.
in the terminal where FF was started. Also irregularly:

`[Parent 19260, Gecko_IOThread] WARNING: pipe error (113): Connection reset by peer: file /builds/worker/workspace/build/src/ipc/chromium/src/chrome/common/ipc_channel_posix.cc, line 357`

This is a capture of the processes related to FF:

hi john, thanks for the report. could you try to capture and share a performance profile like described at https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Performance/Reporting_a_Performance_Problem which might hold more information on what's going wrong.

Hi, due to the lack of information from the reporter I will mark this issue as Incomplete, but please reopen it if it still occurs on your end and please provide the info requested in comment 2.
Thank you
