User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Fedora; Linux x86_64; rv:67.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/67.0

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Added a new outlook.com IMAP account to Thunderbird
  2. Subscribed only a few folders as not all of them should be displayed

Actual results:

  1. Used the email client until after a random number of starts it always forgets the subscribed folders
  2. All folders on the mail server get listed and I have to unsubscribe them again
  3. Affects Thunderbird on Linux and Windows

Expected results:

  1. It shouldn't forget the subscribed folders after a while and only display folders that were chosen once.

That's going to be a hard one to track down given that it seems random. So lets do the easy stuff first

Do you have any add-ons installed?
Are you using the latest version of TB 60.7.2? (at the time of this comment)
How long have you been using TB with this account, so we can figure out if its a regression or something new.

Also are the subscribed folders its forgetting also random?

Using Lightning and Shrunked Image Resizer. The second one I even had removed for a while, but doesn't change anything.

Yes, it's version 60.7.2

Definitely 2 years, probably even more.

Also are the subscribed folders its forgetting also random?

Once I unsubscribe folders they stay hidden for a while until ALL of them reappear.

Ah wonderful!

Thanks for attaching the logs.

I can't verify it as happening on my end, but as you have been able to reproduce it constantly I'm going to set it as confirmed (NEW).

If you are willing to continue testing we are in beta 3 of the next version of Thunderbird. Testing if this happens on the newest version would help as that will be where any fixes will land if there is time to land it in the next official release.

Gene, anything in the log? The loss of which folder can be seen in the log?

I have been using the beta channel for a while now and wasn't able to reproduce the issue since then. The Problem seems to be gone on all my clients. Thank you for your help!

Gene, anything in the log? The loss of which folder can be seen in the log?

Edit: I think he is saying he is seeing extra folders in tb that were unsubscribed previously. Not loss of folders in tb.

Can't tell much from the log since it only lists the folders that the server reports as subscribed (tb sends lsub command to get the folder list). In order for tb to subscribe to a folder, the imap subscribe command must be sent. Don't think tb will do this spontaneously without user input via the subscribe screen. So we need evidence in a log that subscribe was actually sent by tb, which we don't have in the attached log.

So my guess is that the server (outlook) was reporting folders as subscribed on its own and tb accepts it (as it should) and shows the folders. Maybe outlook caught the problem and fixed it on their own and that's why the reporter stopped seeing the problem.
