User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:67.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/67.0
Steps to reproduce:
- create a bookmark
- associale a new tag
- later, modify the bookmark address (e.g. https:// instead of http://)
- modify the tag name
Actual results:
The old tag is still there, but now empty, i.e. without any bookmark. It cannot be renamed nor deleted.
Expected results:
The old tag should be removed automatically when there is no bookmark associated with it. It seems it keeps a copy of the old bookmark address in the background somewhere, or is linked with it. The old address still appears as auto-completion suggestion when typing an address in the address field and is shown as a bookmark, which is very annoying.
There seems to be no user accessible GUI to modify or remove such orphaned tags. The only way to get rid of them is to create a new profile and restore all bookmarks from sync, which seems to only contain valid tags.
This is not restricted to Windows. The behavior is identical on Linux and results in apparently empty, disfunct tags.

I was unable to reproduce this issue
when i click on view history saved bookmarks > Bookmarks > and Right click on the bookmark ( properties )
I modified from https:/ to http:/ and added another tag name, but after that the tag got changed and updated.
Also Clicking on the "window sidebars" button
Selected the bookmark, right click and edit the http:/ to https:/ and changed the bookmark name
and the bookmark got updated when i search for it on the awesomebar.
Please download Firefox Nightly from here: https://nightly.mozilla.org/ and retest the problem.

Hi Pablo,
you are right, I myself, cannot reproduce with the above description?! However, exactly this has resulted in empty tags in the past until just recently, both on Windows and Linux, with latest FF. I'll attach a screenshot.
I came across this by an entry in the issue tracker of the Bookmarks Organizer extension:

Hence closing as invalid. Hi this happens again, please follow all steps in comment 2.
It must be related to profiles with Sync enabled. The problem is definitely there, see screenshot. Empy tags without associated bookmarks should not exists. If they happen to be there, they should be deleteable.
