Steps to reproduce:
I receive emails and starting this morning attachments take upwards of 5 minutes to open - PDFs, JPGs, PNGs, TIFs, - all of varying sizes from 15mb down to 150kb.
Actual results:
I click on the attachments paperclip and double click the files and they don't open
Expected results:
when I double click the files in the attachment paperclip dropdown they should open instantly or near-instantly.

I can't seem to reproduce the error, for any attachments on my end. So lets get the basics out of the way.
Full release number for Thunderbird? (I'm on 60.7.2)
Email protocol for the account that is having trouble? (IMAP or POP)
Antivirus program?
Are you using any Add-ons?
Try temporarily disabling the addson if there are any. Help--> Restart without addons
And your Antivirus (if you trust the sender). You could also try to repair the inbox or folder these emails are in. Right click on the folder --> Properties --> Repair folder

Can you supply a sample message with an attachment what opens slowly. There are some known issues with some "strange" attachments, but images and PDFs shouldn't be a problem.

Sorry slickbick, I forgot to ping you when I updated the bug. Please check the things we suggested and get back to us so we can help resolve or at least understand the issue.
Bug 1562422 sounds similar to this issue if you want to look at that bug and let us know if you two are having the same problem it will help us figure out whats going on.
