shouldn't Launch File and Show in Explorer (Show in Browser, Show in Finder for
linux and mac, respectively) be disabled if a download is either canceled or failed?
how these toolbar buttons behave depends on the platform... but for the sake of
polish (or, simplicity, at least), wouldn't it be best to have them disabled if
the download didn't finish successfully? (esp considering the erratic behavior i
see.)
results below are based on 2002.07.08 branch comm builds.
linux rh7.2 (Launch File n/a here for dl mgr)
-----------
whether the download was Canceled or Failed, clicking Show in Browser launches a
new browser window with a local file listing of where the download would've been.
win2k
-----
a. Show in Explorer for Canceled downloads launches a new browser window with a
local file listing of where the download would've been.
b. Show in Explorer for Failed downloads doesn't do anything (good), but is
still clickable.
c. (erratic) Launch File is sometimes enabled for Canceled downloads, and when i
click on it, the OS attempts to open it (for my win2k box, WinZip asks to open it).
d. (erratic) Launch File is sometimes enabled for Failed downloads, but doesn't
do anything.
mac OS X
--------
a. Show in Finder for Canceled downloads doesn't do anything (good), but is
still clickable.
b. (erratic) Show in Finder is sometimes enabled for Failed downloads, and when
i click on it, the OS attempts to open it (StuffIt Expander attempts to open it).
c. (erratic) Launch File is sometimes enabled for Canceled downloads, and when i
click on it, the OS attempts to open it (for my OS X box, StuffIt Expander
attempts to open it).
d. (erratic) Launch File is sometimes enabled for Failed downloads, and when i
click on it, the OS attempts to open it (for my OS X box, StuffIt Expander
attempts to open it).
mac OS 9.1 (classic emulation)
----------
a. (erratic) Show in Finder is sometimes enabled for Canceled downloads, and
when i click on it, a Finder window opens showing where the download would've been.
b. Show in Finder is enabled for Failed downloads, and when i click on it, a
Finder window opens showing where the download would've been.
c. (erratic) Launch File is sometimes enabled for Canceled downloads, and when i
click on it, the OS attempts to open it (StuffIt Expander attempts to open it).
d. Launch File doesn't do anything for Failed downloads, but is still clickable.

note about the erratic results: the launch of the helper app or file location
app might only occur the first time i click the button during that session. (ie,
right after canceling or dl failure.) oddness...
