From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 Galeon/1.2.5 (X11; Linux i686; U;) Gecko/20020623 Debian/1.2.5-0.woody.1 BuildID: Gecko/20020623 Debian/1.0.0-0.woody.1, build 2002062317 I have to kill mozilla (and galeon "works" the same) if I attempt to open www.w3c.com (ironic eh?). A couple of boarders are drawn, before everything stops. Martin Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.run: mozilla www.w3c.com 2.wait 3.try to use mozilla window That's it!! Actual Results: Mozilla window hung - no redraws or anything Expected Results: Should have displayed the webpage and continued working!
WFM 2002070508/trunk/W2K > I attempt to open www.w3c.com (ironic eh?) Martin, maybe you should try to visit http://www.w3c.org/ to reach The World Wide Web Consortium.

OK, so maybe it isn't so ironic! :-) You are, of course, correct. Actually *my* mistake is doubly funny, given that I live for 6 months each year in India :-) !! However, that doesn't change the underlying problem! Martin
Works for Me (Linux/Trunk/2002070408) Does this happen if you create a new profile. (Yes I know not a solution but it narrows the problem to corrupted profile vs. something else).
worksforme, linux build 20020708 the page uses flash plugin. are you playing audio in the background (xmms?) see bug 58339
Ahhh! Running mozilla under strace showed that it was hanging in the open of /dev/dsp - sure enough there was a problem with my sound device which a re-boot has fixed, and mozilla (and galeon) are now working. Thus the remaining questions are: Why does www.w3c.com cause /dev/dsp to be opened? I hear a click as I access the site, but no other sound. Should mozilla be (more) tollerant to a misbehaving sound system? Sorry to have flagged this up as a more serious mozilla problem!
... Or is it, as I gleen for comment #4, a fault with the flash plugin? (Other flash sites were working, I thought - does flash always open /dev/dsp?)
yes. Flash tries to open /dev/dsp, and if it can't (because you're already playing audio) then Mozilla hangs. If that's what you were seeing, then you can mark this as a dupe of bug 58339
OK, I'm convinced, I'm marking this bug as a dupe of bug 58339. Thanks for all your help... *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 58339 ***
