Steps to reproduce:
I was pleased to make a bug report at https://github.com/mozilla/addons. But I can't. I do not have an account at github and will not create one as long as github is owned by Microsoft.
On https://addons.mozilla.org/ I cannot download any addon when my user agent string differs from the accepted. This is extreme annoying.
Reproduce it by visting "about:config" and create the new setting "general.useragent.override". Set the value to an arbitrary string like 'do not spy on me'.
Actual results:
I am unable to download any addon. I even cannot download an addon to look into the source code.
Expected results:
There should be a way to download addons anyway.

This is not the right component for this issue. We can't effectively triage it this way, regardless of how you feel about Microsoft.
As for your issue, UA compatibility is important because AMO behaves different on desktop, mobile, and for other clients. Installation and other features are affected by it.
If you want to download the files without changing your UA string, you can use the API (https://addons-server.readthedocs.io/en/latest/topics/api/addons.html). For example, these are the details for Adblock Plus, including the file URL: https://services.addons.mozilla.org/api/v4/addons/addon/adblock-plus/
