RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 1553776

People

(Reporter: timastone19, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:62.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/62.0

Steps to reproduce:

Open Firefox normally. Did not work. Works if you run as administrator

Actual results:

Nothing. Cursor spun then went away

Expected results:

Firefox should have opened with out elevated permissions.

If I uninstall 68.0 and install an earlier version, there are no issues. Once it updates to 68.0 after the install, it goes back to needing elevated permissions.

Work around - if I uninstall 68.0 then install an earlier version, I have to disable updates, uninstall the newly updated 68.0, then install the older version for it not to update to 68.0

hello, can you take a look in the system's eventlog if any related entries are showing up there once you attempt to start firefox?

I disabled the "run as admin" on my computer and get this from the windows event viewer.

We are having this issue with about 300 computers in my company right now.

thank you for the follow-up. it appears that your enterprise security software is attempting to hook into firefox and crashing it this way. we're tracking this in bug 1553776 and the next firefox update (due to happen in the next couple of days) should contain a mitigation against this...
