Closed Bug 1567646 Opened 5 years ago Closed 5 years ago

I am using the latest MacOS to help Apple testing it. In this OS Catalina Version 10.15 Beta (19A512f) Firefox does not work. It did in the previous Catalina version.

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_15_0) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/75.0.3770.142 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce:

Simply tried to open Firefox, but as you can see in my attached screen video, Apple and Firefox don't get along in this case. Just thought you should know.

Actual results:

Firefox never gets a chance to start up.

Unfortunately this report is not very useful because it does not describe the problem well. If you have time and can still reproduce the problem, please read https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/QA/Bug_writing_guidelines and add a more useful description to this report, plus include exact Firefox version information. Also see https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/products/firefox/fix-problems/slowness-or-hanging

Not sure which version you are running (and I don't see a video or screenshot attached). It is likely you are hitting Bug 1563631. Bug 1563631#c12 has specific instructions on how to get it to work on 10.15.

Attached is a screen shot to show you the error message when I try to start Firefox. All I get is an error window telling me:

"Firefox Software Update" can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software.
This software needs to be updated. Contact the developer for more information.
Firefox downloaded this file on an unknown date.

My initial bug report was so brief because I could not even see the Firefox version or anything else, but assumed that if I tell you "Firefox does not work under the latest MacOS Catalina" your developers could simply try to start Firefox under that OS and they would clearly see what happens. But I guess I was wrong.

My environment:

MacBook Air (13-inch, mid 2012)
Processor 2GHz Intel Core i7
macOS Catalina Version 10.15 Beta (19A512f)
Firefox Version 67.0.4

Hope this is what you need to know, and what I meant when I said: Firefox does not load under Catalina. And please don't tell me "it will not work under a BETA OS". Remember, I just wanted to let you know in case you were not aware of this problem. I personally really don't care as I can easily use someone else's web browser.

Consider this to be my last message to you as your bug reporting process is so complicated (including the 10 MB restriction to send you a screen video) and your team does not seem to be interested in making it any easier.
Just so you know: I have worked in IT for 50 years, and currently work as a volunteer with a variety of companies (including Apple) to help test new software. In short, I do understand the concept of bug reporting ... for most. I just seem to fall short in your case. So be it.
