Confluence has some magic built in that assumes you're using the "confluence-administrators" group and not a custom group for your admins. Some of this magic is supposed to be ignoring space permissions.

To be able to help users fix page restrictions I need to be able to see everything. Am hoping that being in the expected group will allow that.

The confluence-administrators group is a built-in group in confluence and not controlled by LDAP. I believe the way I've dealt with this scenario in the past is by going through the admin dashboard, there is a space browser that lets you get into the spaces to fix permissions. I'm not sure if it's possible to add yourself into the built-in confluence-administrators group, since it's an LDAP user, but it might be something you can do within confluence using your admin account.

Hi Justin,

I have tried, but we don't have the user directory set up to allow local groups. I don't know what the overhead would be on the LDAP side, but if I were to be added to such a group in LDAP, confluence should treat it as the same as the internally managed one.

Yes there is a place to see the page restrictions, but it doesn't show them in a page tree. I also can't recover page permissions just for myself if viewing is restricted, I can only remove them entirely. I tested in stage with the local account and it does give me the abilities I need.

Followup because we forgot to update the bug. We met about this and tried it out and it did do the right thing by super-imposing the LDAP group into confluence, which was expecting the local group, and I believe this helped Majken solve the problems at the time. It's now been a year and to date she was the only user in that group, and that account is now disabled, so I've deleted the group.
