User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/76.0.3809.59 Safari/537.36 Vivaldi/2.7.1609.4

Steps to reproduce:

Cut off and block the Internet connection.
Open Activity Manager in Thunderbird.
Get new messages for all accounts.

Actual results:

In Activity Manager, each account gets a ⚠️.
But there's only one account name (at the top).
You can not tell which is which from the same server.

Same issue in other activity categories.

Expected results:

All the account names should be shown when necessary.

By cut off and block you mean you select File > Offline and enable "Work Offline", or you do something different?

How many accounts do you have?

When I work offline and try to get new messages for all accounts, a dialog box appears telling me I am currently offline and asks if I want to go online to get all messages. I cancel that and see nothing in the Activity Manager.

Flags: needinfo?(bugs.sugs)

Upper:
3 accounts with only 1 name.

Lower:
Account(g▼b) is syncing, while account(g▼2) is completed.
But the title says account(g▼2) is syncing.

Not offline.
Blocking connection (e.g. by disabling Local Area Connection, or via the firewall) is just to simulate the condition, in order to reproduce the issue easily.

And see the screenshots.

Uff, what component should this go into? Digging through the activity manager isn't so much fun, especially not if it's related to warnings, errors. Ben, do you want to take a stab at this?

Component: Untriaged → Mail Window Front End
Flags: needinfo?(benjamin)

Sure, I'll get on it as soon as I can replicate the issue.

BS, are you disabling the connection during the sync or just before?

Flags: needinfo?(benjamin) → needinfo?(bugs.sugs)

Before.

Let me clarify it if I made some confusion:
Please note that the above screenshots were from real events, not produced by blocking connection.
Blocking connection is just for simulating, since such real events are rare/hard to reproduce.

The 2nd image is for "connection blocked".

AM isn't the most comprehensive logging location - when you see something there then it's a good day :)

On Windows I killed my network connection and tried get new mail and nothing appears in AM - which I believe is Bug 545499 - Mail checking status should not be limited to the status bar. But turning off house internet might be a better simulation, which I didn't try (Other OS might get different results)

Hi Wayne,
I reproduced the similar issue (Activity Manager shows nothing) with the steps below.
Please check if this is also the "reason" for yours.

Block connection (e.g. by disabling Local Area Connection, or via the firewall), in order to reproduce the issue easily.

Exit Thunderbird completely. (= No thunderbird.exe process remains.)
Run Thunderbird.
Get new messages for all accounts.
(At the moment Activity Manager shows all the failures for me.)

Leave Activity Manager window open.
Close Thunderbird main window. (= thunderbird.exe process remains.)
Run Thunderbird. (Now the main window opens.)
Get new messages for all accounts.

Now Activity Manager only shows POP failures. Nothing for IMAP.

Flags: needinfo?(vseerror)

I'll leave this to Ben.

(Mail Window Front End and General are both good components for Activity Manager)

Flags: needinfo?(vseerror) → needinfo?(benjamin)

Thanks for all the info BS,

I'll start doing the usual research and try to get to the bottom of it.

Thunderbird_ActivityManager_Failures_Focused.png

The text display in Activity Manager is improved.
But the recent versions never show such a failure (mentioned above) anymore.

After observation I believe it's because the size for the category is not correct. (Suppose the ⚠️ notes have text.)
See the image (merged) and note the top of the list:
▲ Left: There are 2 lines at the top (shown after the connection failure for 2 IMAP accounts).
▲ Middle/Right: They can be focused.
And of course they can be cleared.

(In reply to BS from comment #13)

https://rammichael.com/textify
▲ Textify can grab any text anywhere.

But it doesn't get any text from the tiny stripes at the top of Activity Manager.
So it seems Thunderbird produced an empty note after a connection failure.

This is resolved in v102.
