From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.1a+) Gecko/20020711 BuildID: 2002071108 When keywords to be searched on are entered in the address bar, if the user presses return instead of pressing search then Mozilla tries to find the keywords as a URL. However, this is not the bug I'm reporting. The bug I have is that, once that mistake has been made, if you click in the address bar and edit the string of text and then press the down arrow to bring up the Search [EngineNAME] for "" thingy, and then press down again to select it and press enter, the browser once again attepmts to retrieve the text as an URL. Please do not suggest that the option that pops down when you type in keywords is supposed to behave like this, because it isn't. Normally you can use the downarrow keys and press enter. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Replace the URL in the address bar at the top of this page with "foo foo foo" (no quotes) 2. Hit enter 3. An error message pops up saying, "The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded." (This is irritating, why can mozilla not recognise urls with spaces as search keywords?) 4. Ok the error message. Click so that the cursor is flashing at the end of foo foo foo (you may need to click twice as the first click selects the text and the second positions the cursor). 5. Press the down key twice, notice how it appears as though the search option is highlighted, press enter - as if to select the search option. 6. The same "The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded." error appears but this time the option menu stays open, over the top of the error message. (Screen shot available on request). Actual Results: Mozilla should use the keywords foo foo foo to search using the search engine specified in the preferences. Expected Results: Mozilla tries to load the keywords as a URL and fails.

Just about to submit this same bug. It only works if the text on the bar is changed (e.g., by adding a space). It used to be a problem to even edit the text before doing the search but that works now.

Confirm this bug on LINUX. Starting with 1.1 (build 20020826) there also an additional problem: Under some circumstances, entering some search term in the URL bar, then pressing CURSOR down to get to the search function and then hitting ENTER doesn't work (nothing is loaded, nothing happens - i have to enter www.google.de to search directly). This never happened with Mozi 1.0. I think URL bar search should be re-inspected / re-worked.
