RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 1571236

People

(Reporter: paulderekrobinson, Unassigned, NeedInfo)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:68.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/68.0

Steps to reproduce:

Nothing that I'm aware of.

Actual results:

The search box and two extension icons get pushed into the overflow menu when opening Firefox. I choose customize and drag the search box back into position. It stays in the correct position during that session but when Firefox is next started the search box and icons are once more back in the overflow.

Expected results:

The search box and extension items should not be forced into the overflow menu every time Firefox is run.

Hi,

I have tested your issue on latest FF release 68.0.1 and latest Nightly build 70.0a1 (2019-08-08) and could not reproduce it.
If the issue is still reproducible on your end, can you please retest this using latest FF release and latest Nightly build (https://nightly.mozilla.org/) and report back the results ? When doing this, please use a new clean Firefox profile (https://goo.gl/AWo6h8), to eliminate custom settings as a possible cause.
Also it would be helpful to us if you could attach a screenshot or a screen recording with the issue.

Thanks for the report.

I'm afraid I'm not in a position to install the latest nightly build at present.

Since posting the report I've noticed that the 'home' icon, usually to the left of the address box, is also pushed into overflow. Also, the problem seems to be intermittent; sometimes when I start Firefox the search box and home icon are where they should be but at other times they are in the overflow. I'm not sure what use a screenshot would be as the issue is self-explanatory (and it's difficult to capture the opened overflow).

My desired set up is:

[Navigation][Address][Download][Add-ons][Customise]

But the issue intermittently leaves me with:

[Navigation minus home icon][Long Address box][Download][Overflow with home icon and add-ons][Customise]

Regards

@paulderekrobinson, thanks for response.

What can I do for now is to set a component to this issue in order to involve the development team to take a look over it. If is not the correct component please feel free to change it to an appropriate one.

Thanks.

Hi paulderekrobinson,

Can you give us some more information about your set up? Do you have multiple displays attached? What is the display resolution of each screen? What add-ons do you have installed and enabled? Which ones have buttons in your main toolbar?

Hi paulderekrobinson,

Can you give us some more information about your set up? Do you have multiple displays attached? What is the display resolution of each screen? What add-ons do you have installed and enabled? Which ones have buttons in your main toolbar?

Sorry for the delay in coming back on this. I believe I have traced the issue to an add-on. I've been disabling add-ons one at a time and I believe 'Easy Youtube Video Downloader Express' is the problem; since disabling it there has been no repeat of the issue.

If you re-enable the add-on (and potentially others) can you still reproduce?

The search box and two extension icons get pushed into the overflow menu when opening Firefox. I choose customize and drag the search box back into position.

I'm a bit confused. You drag it back from where, and to where, exactly? Is it in the overflow menu inside customize mode, or in the big toolbox / area labeled "Drag your favorite items...", or just in the wrong place on the toolbar, or something else ?

If you don't drag it back after this has happened, open the overflow menu, then right click the search box from the very edge of the menu (so you get the context menu for the overflow menu rather than the search box itself), what menu entries do you get? "unpin" from the overflow menu, or "pin to the overflow menu" ?

Without more info it's hard to be sure, but I suspect this is a dupe of bug 1571236. If you can confirm your window manager and/or desktop environment that may be helpful.
