"This bug is not related with 32-bit vs. 64-bit. I can reproduce the issue if I install both Thunderbird 52 and 60 side by side. Apparently Thunderbird 52 will write registry keys under HKCU\Software\Classes, but Thunderbird 60 will not." from bug 1509918 comment 30
"emk's observation in comment 30 looks interesting; indeed, correcting the registry keys will stop the prompts with TB x64 on a system where a 32bit release was there before - though only a clean install of 32bit TB 60 can rule out such a regression from 52."
in order to move along 64 bit.

If there is already a patch for Firefox, can someone transform that to Thunderbird also? Even if not all at once, but if a small step can be taken forward each week, that would be great.

Any progress on this bug?
Can we at least get an "assignee"?
Thanks.
