Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Android 7.1.1; Mobile; rv:68.0) Gecko/68.0 Firefox/68.0

Steps to reproduce:

After auto-updates to 6x versions, currently v68 on Android only, I filled in an online form and navigated to another website to fill in another form and found Firefox had retained all the form data from the previous form so having the desktop version also I thought Ok maybe one of the update(s) have reset my History settings, the one in question being a checkbox under the History section pertaining to form data, namely "Remember search and form history" which I always uncheck, however the History section appears to be missing, whats also curious is that I note that somewhere along the line the word Security has been removed from the Privacy & Security option and its now named simllly Privacy? So what are we supposed to take from this? because I can only assume since the word Security has been removed that consequently the firefox browser is being trimmed down so it is no longer gives users the same level of privacy and security across all devices?

Actual results:

See above

Expected results:

In settings I expected to find a Privacy & Security section as per the desktop version, I also expect there to be little or no difference between the Settings in the desktop version and Android version and also the same History options, so that I have the same set of Privacy controls on the Android version as per the desktop version, in order that I have the same level of privacy and security across all my devices.

Hello,

Could you provide us with additional information such as the site where this issue occurs the model and firmware of the device you are using?
If you want to delete your search and form history you can enable this option by going to Settings -> Privacy -> Clear private data on exit -> and select "Form history" and "Search", after these are enabled when tapping the 3 dots menu the "Quit" option will appear at the bottom of the menu that when pressed will delete the selected options.

Thank you

Also to tried to remedy this I set the option to automatically clear history on exit, I checked all option checkboxes, but when I reopen Firefox the form data is still retained, a simple example is that I logged into my email account and when I logged out close Firefox and relaunch it and navigate to my login page then start typing my email address I get a dropdown with my email address in it, so Firefox didnt clear my form history.

It could also be a correction to not give users a false sense when all the settings were already about Privacy but not about Security.

Please split "steps to reproduce" and "actual results" instead of "See above". It's unclear to me what the problem is and what is expected instead. Thanks!

Ok but saying it could be this or could be that, I am none the wiser. If a setting is called Privacy and Security on the desktop version then it makes sense to call it the same across all versions and devices to avoid any confusion, I guess I'll have to check the release notes, to see what's changed and why.

As for providing a reproducible case, its difficult, because to reproduce it you have to be a customer to login and fill in customer form A and submit it, then go to another customer form B and start to fill it in and see that it has some of the data from form A and Firefox retains the form data even after closing and relaunching it even if I have set it to clear history automatically, I tried it on another couple of forms but couldnt reproduce it, but I am working on the reproducible case and will submit it today.

The problem I have with the android version is I cant find the Privacy & Security setting I use on the desktop version, where I can I simply use custom settings for History and uncheck the "Remember search & form data", if I could do that I doubt I would need to raise this as a bug. It need to also check since I installed this version of Firefox through Google play who happened to have a rival browser and can be called untrustworthy and am going to look into checking the signature of Firefox matches the version I have installed and any of the many google apps I an forced to have on my phone aren't interfering with Firefox.

Firefox for Android is on ESR builds. There will not be any dramatic changes to the settings. Firefox Preview is the future.
