User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:68.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/68.0
Steps to reproduce:
I've noticed Pocket coming up in several places, and have literally never touched it. As a user, I don't know what it is, and I frankly don't care. It's probably something that doesn't belong in a browser by default.
Pocket should be moved to an addon. If you get money from Pocket to include it in the browser, it's fine to include a Pocket addon in a default Firefox installation, so it gives users the option to opt out of it by uninstalling/disabling the addon. As a brower that has gotten quite a small marketshare, the last thing you want to do is annoy some users by including something they don't want. Just a friendly reminder ;)
Including as a default addon is moreso fine because I've also noticed that many novice users don't touch the addons pane at all. They couldn't give a monkey toss about addons, so those users are in your.. well, pocket.
The technical reason Pocket should be an addon, is simply because it has nothing to do with core browsing functionality. As an experienced user, I do know what it is; it is no different from things like Pinboard, Flipboard, Google Reader, Delicious, or any other that sort of service.
Legal-wise if Pocket is to remain baked into the browser, I strongly suggest you also bake in functionality for every other bookmarking/offline reading service, to avoid antitrust issues. But that's a whole different story, and I'm not an expert on this.

pocket is part of mozilla/firefox and not a third-party service: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/pocket/
technically it's already shipping as a system addon in firefox that you can disable by setting extensions.pocket.enabled to false in about:config - this will turn off the integration to save urls into a pocket account.
the service is also used in other places like to provide content for the new tab page in some locales, this can be controlled separately through the new tab settings though.
So all it takes is for that system addon to be exposed as such. Can we please get that done?
