From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.1a+) Gecko/20020707 BuildID: 2002070704 It would be nice if you could select an IMAP folder to be non-synchronising. What I mean is that only new mail is fetched and a folder that you have set not to synchronise would be like POPing into a folder using POP3. Changes to an email which has been retrieved in such a folder will not go back onto the IMAP server. This would be very useful for mailing lists which tend to use up a lot of space on the server. The options I am seeking are: [ ] Synchronise folder (default: selected) (and if not selected) [ ] Delete retrieved mails on server [ ] Keep mails in folder after fetching [ ] Delete after [ ] days Some email providers allow you to use POP to retrieve emails in a folder by a non RFC-conform method by specifying the foldername which is to be retrieved in the POP user name. This would achieve the same thing and would work with every IMAP server.

David, wouldn't this be outside the imap spec. Even though optional, comment 0 making imap behave like pop is a bad model. (cc: Bryan about the UE aspects)

yeah, this is not really what imap is about. If you really want this kind of behavior, you could filter the mail into a local folder.

wow so this HUGE bug is being ignored/wontfix'd. I unistalled firefox cause it's not locally secure and ignores the user's selections of settings silently and i guess thunderbird is bad too. every so often even if you select offline mode it will delete every mail from the profile folder - i have been keeping a daily backup of the profile folder so i can copy-paste when it does this. no software should just wipe a profile cause it can't find a server especially when the user has selected to keep mails for offline use... yet again terrible coding guys.

and to bring it directly back to the original bug posted. you have to click on every folder to force it to sync, and guess what...often if it can't connect/fails/times-out it wipes every mail/folder from the profile the next time you start thunderbird even in offline mode mozilla is now possibly the worst software i have ever used. wontfix=bye bye
