We shouldn't be showing the placeholder text for users with no username. Instead we should show "(no username)".

I have verified this issue on the latest Nightly 70.0a1 (2019-08-29) (64-bit) on Windows 7 x64, MacOS 10.14 and Ubuntu 18.04.

  • The "(no username)" placeholder is correctly displayed in the login-item for saved logins that don't have a username.
  • The "Copy" button of the username input is inactive if the logins don't have a username.

However, the "(no username)" placeholder is also displayed when creating a new login. From the QA point of view, the placeholder for username should suggest an example of how the username should look when a new login is created. Also, based on the mock-ups the "e.g., janedoe" placeholder should be displayed when creating new logins.
I have logged this behavior in bug 1577716.
