From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux ppc; en-US; rv:1.0.0) Gecko/20020614
Debian/1.0.0-3
BuildID: Seen with 0.9.9, 1.0 and 1.1a
I have seen the bug with Moz 0.9.9, 1.0 and 1.1a running on a B&W G3 on MacOS
9.2, 384mbs of memory. Mozilla consistently freezes (locks up) while scrolling
through long pages with table heavy formatting. The problem was originally
noticed on yahoo forums, but when testing the latest nightly today, I was able
to reproduce it in a few seconds by loading the XULPlanet skins page and jerking
the scroll bar up and down a couple times.
After the browser has locked up, it can be force quit using cmd-option-escape,
but it has apparently trashed memory, because the computer will hard lock within
a few minutes of normal use, unless you restart the machine immediately.
Behavior of this bug has been very consistent through all the mozilla releases I
have tested on MacOS. I cannot reproduce this bug on Linux.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install Mozilla
2. Surf to XULPlanet.com and click on downloads
3. Jerk the scrollbar up and down a few times.
Actual Results: App freezing, locking interface but mouse still moves. I can
cmd-option-escape to force quit the app, but if I do not restart the machine
*immediately* the OS will hard lock in a minute or two.
Expected Results: Not crash
WorksForMe using Mac/2002080208/9.2.2. I manipulate the scroll elevator all the way down
and then back up ten times without crashing.
Wilhelm, does Mozilla ever generate TalkBack reports following these freezes? If so, can you
provide at least one ID # of such a report?
Also, you should be aware that force-quitting any classic Mac OS (OS 9 and earlier) application
always leaves the OS in a less than stable state. It's only intended to give you the opportunity to
save any other important documents before you restart.

I continue to see the bug even with 1.1 release on my particular machine.
No talkback ever results from the freeze. I have tried to do some
experimentation to see if the freeze is related to a particular system
extension, but have nothing to report so far. I have learned that the bug
*does not* seem to be related to particularly complex layout, but always
seems to result from grabbing the scroll thumb with the mouse. If I have
time and get ambitious I'll see if I can figure out enough MacsBug to get a
stack dump that way.
I was aware that things can't necessarily be trusted after a force quit, but
this crash seems to leave the OS in a *very* unstable state. If I
*immediately* select restart, 9 times out of 10 I'll actually be able to
restart, but if I dilly dally or do anything else (even dragging something to
trash) the machine will hard lock within about 10-15 seconds.
Wilhelm, if you get dumped into MacsBug, type the following sequence:
log freeze
how
sc
log
es
A file named 'freeze' will be created on the Desktop containing important
information about the event. Attach that text file to this bug.
Application crashes always put classic Mac OS into an unstable state. Any time
an application unexpectedly quits or has to be force quit, you should always
restart as soon as possible.

I'm betteing that you have an ATI graphics card (as have most Mac users). From
the release notes :
Mac OS and Windows: Using ATI video drivers will lead to random crashes on many
sites. Mac OS ATI driver versions affected: All (?) Windows ATI driver versions
affected: 5.13.1.6118 (Mac OS) Workaround: set your screen to 'Thousands of
colors' rather than 'Millions'. (Windows) Possible Workaround: Revert to an
older driver (6094?)-- Untested (Bug 101055)
Is this a dupe of bug 101055 ?
