Steps to reproduce:
I'm currently trying to port my complete theme add-on (TT DeepDark) to Thunderbird 68, but to manage to keep a similar level of UI appearance customization, I would need the Thunderbird "experimental" theming feature to allow CSS styling for all the UI areas. For instance, right now, it is not possible to customize:
- "in-content" pages (add-ons manager, settings, "about" pages, etc.);
- "in-content" pages popups;
- scrollbars (especially needed for dark themes).
Is it possible for Thunderbird team to extend the experimental theming features so it could allow to style the UI more completely?
This could avoid to theme developers to heavily relay on userChrome/Content to compensate the Thunderbird theming API limitations. It could also make it easier for any kind of user to enjoy a full and coherent customization experience (especially important for dark themes) without installation hassles.

Does this work on FX? We use the functionality of the Mozilla toolkit. If not, this bug needs to be moved to toolkit.
You could try to set the pref browser.in-content.dark-mode to true and when using the light system theme ui.systemUsesDarkTheme to "1". The latter you need to create manually as integer.
Actually the dark scrollbars are broken on trees on 69+ (FX and TB, bug 1571285).

Firefox has exactly the same problem, i.e. no way to customize in-content pages through the "theme experiment" feature. Currently it is only possible through "userChrome/Content".
Concerning scrollbars, do you think there are any chances that someone will work on this?

There are chances as it also affects FX but as the priority isn't too height it can last some versions. The good thing is, that the next public TB release that is affected by this bug is in around a year.

We depend on FX. I'll close this bug. If you still need something with the limited theming possibilities then please open a FX bug.
