Steps to reproduce:
search for any thing in the main view
select a mail in the view
click the cross to remove the search criteria
select a mail, for instance a SPAM that you want to delete
hit Shift+Del to delete the SPAM
Actual results:
between the selection of the SPAM and the keystroke, Thunderbird has found the previous selected mail in the search view and select it !
Expected results:
when I explicitly select a mail after closing the search box, the focus should not change anymore ! or beter option, cancel or confirm the keystroke when Thunderbird has automaticaly changed the focus (on a new mail for instance) in the last 500ms.

I don't really understand the issue. You're using the Quick Filter Bar to filter a certain set of messages and then select one of those.
Then you remove the search criteria, which leaves the filtered message selected. Then you click onto another message.
And then TB changes the selection? I've never seen this.
Try in our new release TB 68.0.
in fact, there's a delay between the clear of the criteria and the refresh of the list, maybe because of multiple IMAP accounts
- I search "bugzilla"
- select the first mail
- clear the search box
- the full list of the mails is shown from the top
- it take arround 2 seconds for the previous selected mail to be selected again
so I have the time to select a mail in the list, and when I want to delete it, the refresh occurs and I delete the wrong mail.
