Steps to reproduce:
Receiving new messages with attachments into the Inbox
Actual results:
Cannot open the attachments listed on new messages that arrive in the Inbox after automatic upgrade of Thunderbird to version 68 from 60.8. Double clicking on the attachment has no effect. Right-clicking displays a menu with options such as Open, Save but they are greyed out and cannot be accessed.
Messages with attachments already in a sub folder open as expected.
Moving a message from the Inbox to a sub-folder and the attachment is then available.
Moving the message back from a sub-folder to the inbox also makes the attachment accessible from the Inbox.
I have tried compressing the Inbox and performing a repair but this does not appear to have resolved the issue.
We can also access the attachment by forwarding the message and opening the attachment from the composer window.

Your inbox is IMAP?

I updated macOS to tb 68.0 and I don't see problems opening or saving attachments for new emails received. However this sounds very similar to Bug 1576584 that I am trying to understand. Haven't seen problems on linux either. Haven't tried windows but I'm pretty sure Jorg has. (Also assuming reporter is using IMAP.)

Your inbox is IMAP?
Sorry, yes we're accessing a Cyrus IMAP server for all accounts.

I read the Bug 1576584 description and checking the status of the mailbox subscription in Thunderbird for some reason the Inbox was not selected but all other folders on the account were selected. BTW the mail account is setup to download all messages from the server to the local profile folder. I have now selected the Inbox for subscription but this hasn't made an immediate difference and the issue appears to remain. Should I try something else to fix the issue?

I will send you a message with a fairly large pdf attachment. I will be sending it to your posted bugzilla address. Let me know if you can read the attachment with it in Inbox. If not, we need to run tb and record an IMAP:5 log to see what is happening when you try to access the email. You can find the log recording information here: https://wiki.mozilla.org/MailNews:Logging

Looks like subscription to Inbox is not really needed since it is the one and only mailbox you must have in every IMAP account. Unsubscribing it made no difference when I tried it.
So, if I understand right, your folders all have offline storage, including INBOX. Are you using any filters to move messages around?

Thanks for link to the page showing how to enable logging. Looking at the log file it appears there were some issues with logging into the IMAP server, even though there were no messages appearing on the Thunderbird application screen about this. The connection to the IMAP server had been setup as:
Connection security: None and Authentication method: Password transmitted insecurely
I changed this to:
Connection security: SSL/TLS and Authentication method: Normal Password
and the issue with attachments in new message has been resolved.
The previous insecure settings didn't appear to cause an issue with version 60.8 so maybe this needs further investigation.
Thanks

Curious if the cyrus server is one you administer or at a remote email provider? Normally insecure access is not possible with a remote 3rd party email provider. Can you attach the log that shows the errors that occurred?

I'm wondering whether this is a duplicate of bug 1579341 after all. The same goes for bug 1583189. Would anyone like to try the TB 68.1.1 pre-release?

Is this working for you using current version 68.1.2 or 68.2.0?
