Steps to reproduce:

Hello , i noticed that on my computer with Thunderbird 68 (Windows)
it is no longer possibly to change the width of the single columns in the "Blog&News Feed" tab.

Actual results:

Previously i hovered over the Name line of the single Columns and and was able to click down to select the width by moving the cursor.
This is no longer possible .

It seems a bug.

Expected results:

The column width is/seems fixed

I am running Windows 7 64Bit Professional.

Hmm, 'single columns in the "Blog&News Feed" tab', where is that? Can you attach a small screenshot. Here everything works OK, but I don't know what you're referring to.

Component: Folder and Message Lists → Feed Reader
Product: Thunderbird → MailNews Core

Thank you,
the column width as seen here in screenshot
"thema" "starred" "attachments" "Betreff" "Von" "date" etc.
are fixed and the cursor does not change its mode when hovering the column title eg. it is not possible with the mouse to highlight at the beginning or end of the column to be able to change its width.

unfortunately in screenshot the cursor is not shown/visisble.
it is an arrow and is not changing when hovering over the column title.

No problem here on Windows 10. I use Greenshot for the screenshots, there you can show or hide the cursor when taking the screenshot.

Are you on Windows 10? Richard, ever seen this?

Flags: needinfo?(richard.marti)

Thanks, i do not Greenshot yet;
Seen Windows 10=? Yes, but reverted back to Windows 7 do to being more simple.
Hope this is not an Windows 7 issue; besides, everything seems functional.

Well, there are various differences in the theme between 7 and 10, it's possible something went wrong there. Richard will know.

I did miss the possibility to set the column width for all the feeds in the same length. it seems one needs, if one wants to regulated the column width, to do every feed manually; it is not possible to set a template for the width if i remember correctly.

for the moment i use seamonkey, very nice! good memories of netscape navigator! thanks for the help.

I tested it on my Win 7 VM and TB 68 works as it should, also on a feed folder.

Can you try with extensions disabled (see "Hilfe" menu)?

Hello ,

i tried again and it would also not allow for the changing of the column width in the Mail Section;
restarting with add-ons disabled would not repristine the feature.

On my computer it says :Thunderbird 68.0 (32-Bit) , but i have a 64-Bit System .

when trying to "restart with add-ons-disabled", it would restart,
afterwards there would come another dialogue,
where it would again ask me to deactivate all-add-ons or to continue in "save mode" "abgesicherter Modus" . When i would click to deactivate all-add-ons and then click "änderungen ausführen und neustart ausführen" , nothing would happen, it would stall.
when i click "continue in save-mode" "im abgesicherten-modus weiterarbeiten", it would restart again, but the missing functionality as described , eg. not being able to manually change the column width with the help of cursor and mousebutton, would persist.

Not a feed thing.

Component: Feed Reader → Folder and Message Lists
Product: MailNews Core → Thunderbird
Version: 68 → unspecified

(perhaps already answere) It does this only for the blog+feed account - no other accounts?

Version: unspecified → 68

no other accounts, it does it also in the mail section (important).
at the moment i use thunderbird 60. esr so i cannot tell if this has been fixed on Windows 7.

Flags: needinfo?(richard.kuenz)

i just updated to thunderbird 68.2 (from thunderbird 60) and everything is working as expected (the columns are again movable in the horizontal direction)
previously i had installed thunderbird 68 from .exe file, maybe it was related to that.
thank you very much for your help.

Helo ,

i have to reopen this ticket.
The solution for Thunderbird 68.2 lasted only until after one reboot approx. - afterwards i was asked to create a new profile as the old (from firefox 60esr) was deemed no more compatible with the updated latest Thunderbird 68.2.

After creating a new User Profile i can confirm that the above outlined problem still remains for Mail section and Feed & Blog section -
on Windows 7 64Bit on my PC it is not possible to set the column bars as desired.

Hello,

i tried with the newer Thunderbird 68.4.1 and with this version it has been solved on my Windows 7 PC.

The solution is as suggested by the commenter above to highlight and try to drag first one column of choice around, afterwards the setting of column width would become enabled and possible.

Thank you very much
