User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:68.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/68.0
Steps to reproduce:
I started Thunderbird for Usenet-browsing ...
Actual results:
Thunderbird always shows Usenet-articles always with a small default-fontsize.
If I adjust the fontsize with 'Ctrl' + '+' or 'Ctrl' + Mouse Wheel, the font size is adjusted properly.
Expected results:
Thunderbird should remember the configured fontsize at the next startup. But it reverts to the default-fontsize which is too small for me.
This bug is new with version 68.

Have you ever used Tools > Options > Display > Formatting tab and clicked the "Advanced" button to try adjusting the font sizes?
I would recommend making them all the same size and you might need to disable "Allow messages to use other fonts" and "Used fixed width font for plain text messages".
I just tried this by changing from the preset fontsize of 17 to 36 (I won't use that relly, just to notice the change) and nothing changes when I click another Usenet-article.

First, are you using Thunderbird 68.0, or Thunderbird 60.8.0? Check Help > Troubleshooting Information.
Second, you used Tools > Options > Display > Formatting tab, clicked the "Advanced" button to adjust the "Monospace" and "Minimum" sizes?
Be careful using a large number. I'm testing with a size of "20" in Thunderbird 60.8.0. I'd suggest backing up your profile.
After restarting Thunderbird and perusing some messages in comp.infosystems.www.authoring.stylesheets. I see some messages in the larger font and some not in the larger font.
The user agents of the received messages that don't display in the larger font all appear to be KNode and various versions of Thunderbird. All messages posted from slrn/pre, Xnews and Vectrex appear in the larger font size.
Just checked all my posts in mozilla.test and they are not in the larger font.

68.0.

I already had this idea myself and it didn't change anything.

Did this ever work? You're not talking about font size, you're talking about persisting the zoom level after the next restart.
Alice, can you check this? Add a new account, add news.mozilla.org and subscribe to a news group.

Oliver, do one of the above match what you are seeing?

I'm seeing this issue as well since updating to 68.3.1 on Win10 today. Default zoom level is a tick smaller than I'd been using before, and after restarting TB it reverts to that default, losing my last zoom setting. This doesn't match any of those previous bugs, though I'm also seeing Bug 1091841 in addition to this.
