User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_14_6) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/77.0.3865.75 Safari/537.36
Steps to reproduce:
- Go to Account Settings and "Add New mail Account"
- Fill in the fields required for a Yahoo.com account
Actual results:
The panel complains about the credentials being wrong, when I know for sure they are correct. This problem only appears to happen when using TB 68.x, all is good otherwise when using the previous stable TB 60.x
Expected results:
The account should have been created...

I'll defer to others who either have an account or are more in touch with support issues

I am afraid I cannot help you here. I've been meaning to open a ticket about Yahoo also.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. No rhyme or reason. Sometimes I'll just ignore the warning message, other times I'll try my password again. I have also tried removing all credentials, no good. Also tried putting in to remember all credentials, no good.
I need to look up what the proper IMAP and SMTP server names should be for Yahoo, as well as ports. It all "USED TO WORK".
Sorry.

The Yahoo setting are listed on the database https://autoconfig.thunderbird.net/v1.1/ so they should be detected automatically. They were missing for a time around the 3rd September due to a space issue on the production server. My understanding is that that outage was very brief ending 4th September.
However lets talk about failing internet companies. Verizon wrote down the value of their Yahoo purchase down by almost 5 billion for a reason. So some peculiarities I am aware of;
-
Yahoo prefer oAuth2.0 for access. This method however requires the use of cookies. Those that use third party tools often allow them to turn off this so oAuth does not work any longer.
-
Yahoo no longer supports a user name and password if the user enabled a "less secure apps" setting. The only way to use a password is to create an app password. https://help.yahoo.com/kb/learn-generate-third-party-passwords-sln15241.html
*Yahoo appear to "randomly" invalidate app passwords, this may be related to the next two items.
-
Whilst not unique to yahoo, using a VPN to change your geo-location often results in security flags being set. A web site login is needed to acknowledge same.
-
Yahoo may also "trip" when you upgrade Thunderbird because the product version changed. There is a whole list of oops items here https://help.yahoo.com/kb/asked-verify-account-signing-sln8923.html
-
ATT and BT offer Yahoo services, and do not have oAth secrets, so there is no way to use the yahoo oAuth for these contract suppliers.
I have not addressed the other common cause of account configuration failure. Security software. If you get a message that the settings were not found, or that the user name and password were incorrect it is highly likely you have an anti virus based software firewall that is blocking Thunderbirds attempts to reach out to the internet. This is particularly common when a new version is released (68 for example) because the anti virus vendors have not managed to update their products. it usually takes manual intervention or up to a weeks for the product to get an update.

Since my last reply here, Yahoo had stopped working entirely for me.
I think some of Yahoo's settings have changed. Here is what I have, from: https://help.yahoo.com/kb/SLN4075.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAL9jXif2Rg-o008sKRS6gTlzBUOXK7BOqckORLxoRckhc6FVVlKYvWw__n-BUrSgvCFXTMjoLeONhFnODW33bMeVOXcyq3Opop5MfhOHnvtc1qSRIJeblVyL63CHbLFll7uQ2dJP9pSHgkp7wRMdDG-pkEKMk5Adr8HPfJT5FpRX
IMAP server settings for Yahoo Mail
IMAP is the best way to connect your Yahoo Mail account to a desktop mail client or mobile app. It allows 2-way syncing, which means everything you do remotely is reflected in your Yahoo Mail account no matter where or how you access it. Here are the settings you'll need to configure your mail client or app.
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server
Server - imap.mail.yahoo.com
Port - 993
Requires SSL - Yes
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server
Server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Port - 465 or 587
Requires SSL - Yes
Requires authentication - Yes
Your login info
Email address - Your full email address (name@domain.com)
Password - Your account's password
Requires authentication - Yes
If you need specific instructions for your mail client or app, reach out to its manufacturer.
I had something OTHER THAN port 993. Once I changed to this, it seemed to start working again.
