User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:69.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/69.0
Steps to reproduce:
SCENARIO 1
0. [no container] login to github
- [Google container] search, click on github link
- [Google container] "reopen" github tab in "no container"
A second tab is opened, at first it looks like no container, then flashes and just opens in the google container again.
Demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TII2Tuf5nE
On nightly, it just opens a new blank tab... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVsKKqdIYf4
Expected results:
MAC works correctly.

have you tested on safe mode?
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode
I wonder if there's some extension that changes the container depending on the URL.

Since this uses the Multiple Account Container extension, I'm not sure testing in Safe Mode makes sense.
I have HTTPS Everywhere, Nano {Adblocker,Defender} installed, and nothing else.

have you configured Firefox Multi-Account Containers extension to always open GitHub pages in Google tab?
you can check the configuration in its toolbar button, there's "Always open in [container name]" checkbox.
if that's checked, it will override the container whenever you open the URL.

note that, the checkbox corresponds to the current tab.
so, please test when you open a tab for GitHub page.

No, I don't have GitHub links set to open in a specific container. In fact, my work around that I just now established is having it open in my "colemickens" container and then signing in there as well. Prior to that there was no container set for GitHub links.
And in fact, the exact same thing happened with BugZilla when I searched "bugzilla mozilla" (which opened google, in a "google" container) and then clicked the link (still in "google" container), and then tried to reopen in "[no container]" where I was already logged in.

just in case, can you test with only Firefox Multi-Account Containers extension enabled?
