Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.14; rv:56.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/56.0 Waterfox/56.2.14

Steps to reproduce:

I visited this taxi website. It wasn't working on my other browser:

https://www.fairfaxredtopcab.com/#/booking

Actual results:

I got hit with:

  1. A flashing slideshow.

  2. A zooming map.

  3. Some alerts.

  4. An awful migraine and nausea from the above.

I have used every trick I can find to try to protect against web animation, but they just aren't enough.

Expected results:

Websites shouldn't harm users, and browsers sould provide tools for users to protect ourselves.

Hi,

I don't see any difference between browsers while visiting the website you've linked, the website looks the same on all of them on my end so I'm not sure it has anything to do with Firefox itself.
Could you check if the behavior is the same on other browsers as well? (Safari/Chrome)

Thanks!

I would need instructions to configure each browser to not hurt me, without each one hurting me as I try to get it to not hurt me. I got hurt by Firefox while trying to set it up, too. I am pretty sure I can't configure Safari to not hurt me. I don't know about Chrome.

I suspect every browser would hurt users with the same pain/animation.

(I have a low-frequency strobe sensitivity, and a visual motion sensitivity. So to begin with, I need to disable cosmetic animations, blinking cursors, tab throbbers, animated gifs, animated pngs, a ton of other animations, autoscrolling, smooth scrolling, sections where part of the page scrolls, but sidebars, top bars, or worst of all, backgrounds don't scroll, items popping up or jumping around during scrolling, side-scrolling images, side-scrolling text, shaky modals, and so on.)

Is this a duplicate of bug 1350586?

Flags: needinfo?(asa)

It's a specific case. The underlying problem is that standard web design practices and browsers injure users.
