I think this behavior is intentional because it's the default behavior in other Windows applications, like Notepad, Edge etc.
Has that changed in Windows recently?
(FYI, you can toggle the hidden pref "layout.word_select.eat_space_to_next_word" in about:config to change the behavior in Firefox.)

Still not working for 2nd image: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/api/system.windows.forms.richtextboxscrollbars?view=netframework-4.8
Strange that left space not appear anymore with or without that option.
