RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 336267

People

(Reporter: keepitsimplestupid, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:68.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/68.0

Steps to reproduce:

In preferences there is:

  1. Allow Firefox toAutomatically install updates (recommended)
  2. Check for updates but let you choose to install them

Actual results:

unfortunately, Unchecking #2

does not remove the

"Restart Firefox to Install updates" radio button.

Expected results:

Updates should cease.

It would be NICE if the "radio button would say"
"Update Firefox to 70b3" or another that says "Cancel Update"

If your doing an install for the first time, guess what;s happening in the background. It's downloading updates. With a fast connection, you may not be able to stop updating to a more recent version.

I'll try to explain this better.

Example:

I can't download FF 69 because of unresolved issues
So, if I extract 68, it automatically starts downloading 69 which won't launch (Bug reported). You can't stop it.

Now with all profiles being separate, you cant unset "Download updates automatically" for the current update.
I need to do a restart for libavcodec obsolete parameter (search about:config for "obsolete") and toggle.

I'm between a rock and a hard place

I need the obsolete for many TV stations. You have to restart FF after setting the parameter.

Now, you have a FF e.g. 69 that won't launch.

Indeed, what you described above is the actual and the intended behavior.

In Firefox 69 when changing the setting to ask in the UI you will be asked if you'd like to cancel an update that is in progress.
