Does not appear to be a recent regression, reproducible going back to 2018-01-01 build.
Blocking google.com with uBlock Origin avoids the memory leak.

I am trying to move bugs out of Core::General since no one is in charge of it. If this is not the right component, feel free to move it to a better place.
Component: General → Untriaged
Product: Core → WebExtensions

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Core::Privacy: Anti-Tracking' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.
Component: Untriaged → Privacy: Anti-Tracking
Product: WebExtensions → Core
