RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 1603813

People

(Reporter: Tyson, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.14; rv:60.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/60.0

Steps to reproduce:

Compose a message (including Reply/Forward/Edit as New) in which either or both of Encrypt This Message or Digitally Sign This Message are set.

Actual results:

There is no indication in the Compose window that the encrypt/sign statuses are set.

Expected results:

There should be some patently visible sign indicating whether a composed message is to be encrypted or signed. I suggest using the Lock and Sealed Envelope icons in the Compose pane as used in a Message pane.

When replying to a message, one might not always remember the security status of the original message. Bug 341242 causes the security status of the reply to be unencrypted when one might expect it to be encrypted.

The symmetry of using the same icons to represent encrypted & signed for both received & composed messages seems intuitive.

You could go so far as to use a broken lock if not all the certs are available for all recipients, but, if you don't have them, you won't get far in composing the message before autosave fails and you get stuck. I think it is sufficient if the lock/envelope icons represent the checks by Encrypt & Digitally Sign.

NI shall just mean: Please put this onto your radar. I think I've seen a bug to improve the UX of this.

We intend to do something in this area for TB 78.

Component: Untriaged → Message Compose Window

As far as I can tell there are indicators in the status bar now. So is this fixed?

I think this can be closed as it was fixed by bug 1603813
Also, we're moving forward with some improvements in this area on bug 1667254.
