Opening the contact editor prevents access to the address book and thus no data from contacts records other than the one opened in the editor popup window is accessible, which makes for some cumbersome/inconvient workflow if data is to be copied/pasted from another record.

In a modern email client would be expected to be able to access any/all other contact records/data whilst editing a contact and not being restricted to the editor's popup window.

Perhpas opening a new tab for editing a contact would be a better way than a popup window.

We've got an address book rewrite planned, so let's keep this in mind.

That bug opened 18 years ago and went stale 9 years ago. Adding this as a dup of a stale bug and closing it does not seem to be aiding a resolution.

It's as much aid there would be. Keeping duplicates open doesn't serve anybody any good.
