User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/76.0.3809.137 Safari/537.36 Vivaldi/2.7.1628.33
Steps to reproduce:
https://www.franceculture.fr/direct
Actual results:
Firefox plays this as a regular page, not as a media player.
You can still change volume with volume buttons, even when screen is off and locked.
But it does not display the stream in a high priority Media Control notification.
Thus, the features explained in "expected results" are not provided and one cannot long term stream sound while doing other stuff or locking screen (streaming will stop sooner or later).
Another related minor bug is that the radio does not auto-play from this /direct page (it does in Vivaldi for Android).
Expected results:
A Media Control should be added to the notifications system and high priority should be given to this audio play, even when Firefox is in the background, so that:
- You can Pause/Play from anywhere including the lock screen.
- High priority is given to the sound stream so it is never aborted by Android priority management for its memory and CPU optimisation, even on low 1% battery.
My screenshots come from Vivaldi for Android (beta), which does this part properly.
John, do you have any idea what would be involved here?

I tried to reproduce your issue on Release 68.2.0 and Beta 68.3b1 using a OnePlus 6T (Android 9) but was unable to. Could you specify the model and firmware of the device you are using?
I was on an Android Grand Prime first generation with Android 5.0.2 Firefox 68.1.1.
I have updated it now to 68.2.0.
But indeed it works on my new Xiaomi Redmi 7 with Android 9 and Firefox 68.2.0.
It was probably because of old Android but Vivaldi was still able to work with media control.

Another related minor bug is that the radio does not auto-play from this /direct page (it does in Vivaldi for Android).
This is intentional, we block media element from starting playback automatically. If you'd rather have them play back automatically, you can change the setting (It's in "Advanced settings").
This is what I see on my device, running a more recent Android. We're also improving on this with MediaSession.
Closing this, because it works as expected.
