User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/77.0.3865.90 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce:

For a long time (years?), when I get an email newsletter from PEMCO Insurance, the images show up as empty rectangles in Tbird.

When I view the same email message in Gmail web-view, the images appear.

See attached (PEMCO email - LOST IMAGES in Thunderbird.zip).

NOTE: Lost images sometimes occur similarly in email messages from other organizations; in those cases, some images will be lost & some images will appear in Tbird. With the PEMCO email messages, ALL images are lost ALL the time in Tbird.

This appears to be a support problem, since Thunderbird 60 hasn't been out for years.

Do you have "Allow remote content in messages" enabled in the Privacy section of Options?

If not, do you get the Blue Bar in this image?

If you get the bar in that image, do the images appear when you click the Preferences button, then click "Show remote content in this message"?

  1. This appears to be a support problem, since Thunderbird 60 hasn't been out for years.

Thunderbird: Help > About = 60.9.0 (32-bit) "Thunderbird is up to date"

  1. Do you have "Allow remote content in messages" enabled in the Privacy section of Options?

YES. I checked the [Exceptions] list; there are a lot of entries there, and they are all 'Status=Allow'.

  1. If not, do you get the Blue Bar in this image?

The link 'Blue Bar' takes me to:
and there is a blue bar in that image.

  1. If you get the bar in that image, do the images appear when you click the Preferences button, then click "Show remote content in this message"?

The Preferences button in that PNG image is not a clickable link.
And I did not get a 'blocked remote content' blue (or yellow) bar when I viewed the PEMCO message in Tbird.

  1. See: Remote Content in Messages

I read this section "See: Remote Content in Messages".

Thank you,

Hard to tell why the images don't show. We'd need to see the original message. Can you save it as .eml file and attach it here via "Attach New File". You can edit the .eml file yo remove your own e-mail address, which might now be necessary since hovering "Mike Ramey" in the header of your posts already shows your e-mail address anyway.

Overall, this does sound like a support request, but I can take a quick look anyway.

Summary: IMAGES LOST IN THUNDERBIRD -- SHOW IN GMAIL WEB-VIEW → Images not shown in thunderbird -- Show in gmail web-view

I have 3 other PEMCO messages in my trash; all of them show 'empty/missing' images.

I don't see a problem. Maybe some add-on is interfering? Try will add-ons disabled, see Help menu.

The product really works as expected. Remote images are blocked at first, and you can unblock them. There is also an option to always unblock them. I can't see a problem and sadly we don't give support here to try to find out what's going on on your machine.

Jorg K -- I ran Tbird in safe mode with all Add-ons disabled. Then I ran it in safe mode without any browser running (to avoid uBlock Origin). No improvement. I'll live with the missing images and try (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/products/thunderbird) later. A further puzzle are the few email messages I get where some inline images appear, and some inline images are missing/empty. Thanks for your help. -mr

The "inline" (embedded) images can be either "remote" and subject to blocking, or "attached" to the message, in which case they aren't blocked an always shown. Your case puzzles me, since when I load your message, I clearly see a notification about blocked images, and when I accept the images, the they show.

Another idea: Go to Help > Troubleshooting Information and click on Profile Folder, Open Folder. After the folder opened, close TB. From that folder, delete permissions.sqlite (or rename it to permissions.sqlite-saved to restore it later). That should reset the permissions mechanism in case the database got corrupted.

  1. I renamed 'permissions.sqlite' & restarted TB; no change.

  2. I have exported my addressbook (Collected & Personal). Is there a way to save my Account Settings (for Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo)? ... so I can DOWNLOAD, UNINSTALL & REINSTALL Thunderbird from scratch?

Got it. I'm reading:
Profiles - Where Thunderbird stores your messages and other user data
(https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data).
-mr

Deleted TB. Downloaded & reInstalled. Previous configuration is intact. PEMCO missing images is unchanged. I give up. :-( Thank you all.
