From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC; en-US; rv:1.0rc3) Gecko/20020523
BuildID: 2002052305
If I'm in Netscape and want to find a bookmark I open bookmarks and type
command-f. This brings up a box with search features. I put in the keyword and
hit okay. Then it finds the first match within the bookmarks, highlighting it
for me. Command-g finds the next one.
In Mozilla, I opened the bookmarks and typed command-f. I got the box and put
in the keyword. Hitting find brougbt up a new bookmark window that was
completely blank even though I used a keyword that gets a couple of hits in the
same bookmark file in Netscape.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open Bookmarks
2.Command-f
3.Put keyword
Actual Results: Didn't find anything and made all my bookmarks disappear into
another window.
Expected Results: Should have found the matching bookmarks.
I did a search on another keyword and it seemmed to work okay. It found 13
matches where Netscape found 10.
Reporter: we had a bug concerning search, which was case-sensitive by default.
Please try searching again considering that fact, and if that's the problem,
upgrade to the latest nightly build, as your one is more than 2 months old.

WFM 2002072204 trunk / Windows XP.
Your Mozilla build is 2 months old. You should always download the most recent
build before reporting a bug like this. (There have been lots of changes in 2
months.)
Perhaps a stupid question: Did you change the first box from "Name" to "Keyword"?

I didn't update because I didn't know there was a newer version. I thought I
was on a mailing list for such announcements. I have download 1.0.
Yes, I tested with the case in both upper and lower. But the search was not
case sensitive as the other one I tried picked up all case matches.
The "keyword" I used is part of the name of the bookmark. What does "keyword"
mean in this instance? Is it a search on all parameters? I hope so, because
that is needed.
How do you search the bookmarks themselves (not creating a new window with
search results)? If I can't do this, how can I find a bookmark so I can move it
into the correct folder? If there's a way, I'll find it eventually, no need to
answer.
Thanks

Answered some of reporter's basic questions (builds, versions, keywords, etc.)
via email so as not to send explanations to everybody on list.
Cyndi: Which, if any, of your original problems with a blank search window are
you still experiencing with 1.0? (Feel free to reply via email if you think it
would be more helpful - I can always post back summaries here.)
Mac OS 9.2.2 English-North American
Mozilla 1.0.1 with ‘Little Mozilla 1.1’ theme
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC; en-US; rv:1.0.1) Gecko/20020722
Build ID 2002072205
I confirm this bug....if the Find Bookmarks dialog window is configured to
'keyword' + 'contains', then the Search result can be a blank page. If I set it
to 'name' + 'contains'---using something I know to be there already---then I get
a search results page showing the hits.
Really 2 different bugs here :
1. A nil hits search result should give some sort of alert that nothing was found.
2. The online Help for searching bookmarks does not describe, let alone examine
the usage of, 'name' 'location' 'description' 'keyword'. The only account of
'keyword' I found in the help was to do with something called 'Internet keyword'
which are somehow listed off the Location Bar---the little window into which
URLs are typed.

The reporter did not set the dialogue window to "keyword" + "contains". She
used the word "keyword" in a different context. She'd meant to say "search
term", not realizing that Mozilla even uses bookmark keywords. So when she
reported an empty window, it was when she kept the dialogue window configured to
"name" + "contains".
(Also, it doesn't matter what you set the search field to - if you type in
"ase623adfa3," or anything that doesn't exist, you'll get a blank window.)
So, there is a 3rd point to this bug (what this bug is really about) that is
still waiting for confirmation: the reporter apparently was given a blank window
even though she entered an existing search term into the "name" field.
IMHO: This bug should not be morphed form the original reporter's intent. If
she's unable to replicate/confirm the original problem it should be closed as
WORKSFORME. Returning an search result alert, rather than just an empty window,
and expanding the available Help text and should both be filed as separate bugs.

Cyndi: Using at least Mozilla 1.0, are you still experiencing the empty results
window when searching for bookmark names you know to exist?
WorksForMe using Mac/2002080208/9.2.2. I have four bookmarks that contain the text,
"Yahoo". I choose Bookmarks/Manage Bookmarks, press command+f, type "yahoo" in the find
field, and click Find. A Search Results window is opened showing all four matching bookmarks,
regardless of case.

Closing as WORKSFORME after a lack of confirmation from reporter and a series of
WFM reports from others.
Reporter: Reopen if you still see this behaviour with Mozilla 1.1.
