Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:69.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/69.0

Steps to reproduce:

This is now the THIRD time that you have done this. The last time was 5 months ago and I opened a bug report: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1549374

You then closed the bug. Obviously the issue has not been resolved. Further, from reviewing other closed bugs there is obviously a pattern you guys are engaging in here closing out numerous reports of this issue.

What is going on over at Mozilla, and do I need to find a new browser for myself and my organization? Look I understand you guys take money from Google, but this is completely unethical, and I can't believe that this is a bug at this point.

Actual results:

I set my search engine to Duckduckgo and then you changed it to Google without my consent.

Expected results:

It should have stayed set the way I originally left it.

Hi Brian, we're definitely not intentionally changing the default from DDG to Google at the moment.

I have no idea why your previous bug was closed as a duplicate, as it is obviously not related to the bug it was marked as a duplicate of. I'm sorry that happened, sometimes we get things wrong.

I need to know a few more details to start to try and understand what's happening here:

  • Are you still able to change the search engine back to DDG? i.e. is it still listed?
  • Enter about:config in the address bar, and search for browser.search.region, what is the region specified?
  • Which locale of Firefox are you using (you can find this at the bottom of Help -> Troubleshooting Information).
