Affected versions

  • Firefox Nightly 71.0a1 (2019-10-10)
  • Firefox 70.b14

Affected platforms

  • macOS 10.14
  • Windows 10 x64
  • Ubuntu 18.04 x64

Steps to reproduce

  1. Launch Firefox (Arabic Build).
  2. Go to "reddit.com".
  3. Click on the shield icon from the URL bar.
  4. Click on any of the trackers to see more information about it.
  5. Observe "Manage Protection Settings" button.

Expected result

  • There shouldn't be any extra non-arabic leters after "ادر اعدادات الحماية" button.

Actual result

  • Extra (M) underlined letter is displayed after "ادر اعدادات الحماية" button.

Please file bugs for the Protections popup in the Firefox::Protections UI component from now on.

Thank you! :)

To the bug:

Flod, do you know anything about this? Is this an issue with the way that Firefox displays shortcut codes or that that code is just not translated yet?

Component: Site Identity → Protections UI
Flags: needinfo?(francesco.lodolo)

Plenty of languages don't translate accesskeys (Indic languages are an example, Japanese another).

Arabic should be one of the languages translating them though, given the small amount of errors here
https://transvision.mozfr.org/accesskeys/?locale=ar&repo=gecko_strings

So, it's a (minor) localization issue, but it shouldn't be considered a blocker for QA purposes.

Component: Protections UI → ar / Arabic
Flags: needinfo?(francesco.lodolo)
Product: Firefox → Mozilla Localizations
Summary: "Manage Protection Settings" button isn't correctly translated on Arabic builds → Untranslated accesskey in "Manage Protection Settings"
Version: 71 Branch → unspecified

Correction. It's not an error in the localization. The translation is missing, because that's a string that we added very recently and uplifted to beta, so it's falling back to English.

Bugs for incomplete translations are normally closed as INVALID, since we have no commitment to ship translations at 100%. In this specific case, I can fix it myself, since the old accesskey seems to be still valid.
