Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:60.9) Gecko/20100101 Goanna/4.4 Firefox/60.9 PaleMoon/28.7.1

Steps to reproduce:

On linux
opening links in thunderbird sometimes asks which browser to use, somethines it just uses [seems] whatever it feels like.
OK, all sorts of advice how to set the default browser for thunderbird, fine

but, why does thunderbird change the system default browser??

Actual results:

whatever browser used in thunderbird it then makes that the systemwide default browser

Expected results:

setting a default/other browser for thunderbird is fine

IT SHOULD NOT ALTER THE SYSTEMWIDE DEFAULT BROWSER.

IT SHOULD NOT ALTER THE SYSTEMWIDE DEFAULT BROWSER.

Making this uppercase won't accelerate anything. TB 60.x is coming to the end of its life, we're not fixing anything any more. Try TB 68.1.2.

That said, I don't think TB changes the system's default browser, what will change the systems default browser will be your fine distribution :/

Indeed.

Walt, can you offer advise?

Reporter,

What Linux OS are you using?

I'm using Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS.

With my Firefox set as the default browser in its Preferences > General settings, and Thunderbird set as the default email application in its Preferences > Advanced > General settings, and both set as the default apps in Ubuntu's Settings > Details > Default Applications I can't reproduce this problem.

I think it is similar on my Linux Mint 19.2 Cinnamon.
