From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.0.0) Gecko/20020530
BuildID: 2002053012
NOTE: This is not the same as bug #124112.
NOTE: This is similar to 134158, but should be considered a clarification, since
that thread seems to be going nowhere!
In Netscape 4.72 and previous, the browser would automatically fetch and locally
store messages as unread (if this option was enabled) and every XX minutes would
also do this automatically (again if this was enabled). Mozilla HAS these
checkboxes, but this feature DOES NOT do this as described. Actually, it
appears as it does nothing. I still have to go to the mail window and manually
check for new messages.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Select and 'tick' checkboxes in Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings/Server
Settings/Check for new mail at startup AND Check for new messages every ___ minutes
2. restart Mozilla
3. new mail is not downloaded locally, and after set time, addidional mail is
not downloaded
Actual Results: nothing unless you manually DIY
Expected Results: Messages should be available at startup, after being
automatically downloaded from remote mail server, and as needed after a user
selected amount of time as the day porgresses.
Also the "XXX has XX new messages" thing rises in the lower right side of the
screen AFTER you manually select to "Get New Messages" - sort of closing the
barn door after the piggies have run away?
I don't see in your steps where you specify that you've checked 'Automatically
download any new messages'. Have you done that?
Yes. That box is checked, the time box is set for 5 min (and checked) and
"checked at startup" is checked. Note that leave on server is not checked.
Try the current profile and the latest binary - you're using an almost 4-month
old build.
Now have:
Mozilla 1.1
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.1) Gecko/20020826
Still there.
In fact I get the "ding" and the "you have xx messages" text only AFTER I click
on the lower left mail icon......
sort of like closing the barn door.....
MRK
Ah, wait, you don't have mail running?
It's a known bug that mail has to be running to have alerts and notifications work.
That's bug 71105...
Save me the trouble of figgerin' it out - isn't mail already running?
Please explain.
May save countless hours of newbie frustration because thier spam didn't arrive
on time :)
Well, according to your comment:
>>In fact I get the "ding" and the "you have xx messages" text only AFTER I click
>>on the lower left mail icon......
you haven't launched mail yet.
So, indeed, this is a DUP of bug
