Steps to reproduce:
I activated "Show position of mouse when hitting Ctrl" in the Mouse and Touchpad Preferences of my OS (Linux Mint Debian Edition with Cinnamon). As I’m using a german version and don’t know the exact english phrases, I translated the german on my own. I mean an option that shows an animated eye-catching circle around the mouse arrow when hitting Ctrl key.
Regarding my environment:
$ cat /proc/version
Linux version 4.9.0-11-amd64 (debian-kernel@lists.debian.org) (gcc version 6.3.0 20170516 (Debian 6.3.0-18+deb9u1) ) #1 SMP Debian 4.9.189-3+deb9u1 (2019-09-20)
$ cat /etc/debian_version
9.3
$ cat /etc/lsb-release
DISTRIB_ID=LinuxMint
DISTRIB_RELEASE=3
DISTRIB_CODENAME=cindy
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="LMDE 3 Cindy"
Actual results:
When clicking on a menu-title, the menu opens (as expected). When hitting Ctrl-key the menu closes (as not expected). The same applies to similar things like context menus, bookmark-subfolders at the menu-alike bar below url-bar, and click-and-hold on previous-page-arrow-button in order to see previous-pages-history.
This is also true with Thunderbird.
On all programs other than FF and TB I’ve noticed no abnormalities regarding Ctrl-key and menus. Therefore I consider it as an issue with Firefox/Thunderbird rather than with Cinnamon.
Expected results:
Menu panel should stay, even when Ctrl is pressed. So, one can use Ctrl-click e.g. to open a bookmark in a new tab. (I know that this can be done using middle-click, too.)
FF: 68.2.0esr (64-Bit)
TB: 68.2.0 (64 bit)

Hi Peter!
I´m trying to reproduce this issue in lates Nightly 72.0a1 Build ID 20191104094118 using Ubuntu 18.04 but I couldn't.
Could you please add more clear steps and a screen recorder showing us this problem?
I also ask you to try to reproduce this behavior using the latest version of Nightly.
You can download Nightly from here: https://nightly.mozilla.org/
