Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:70.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/70.0

Steps to reproduce:

On some of our computers become very slow.
I performed clean installation and new profile and problem still persists.
Even when I open four new empty tabs is switching between them slow. When I open some pages in them is much worse.
Firefox processes use cca 50% CPU. When i do not touch anything, after some tens of seconds it goes down to normal cca 5% CPU. After couple clicks it goes up again.

When I uninstall version 70 and install 68, delete firefox profile and start. It is the same. But after restart of computer it works normally. After upgrade to 70 is the problem back.
Problem is the same for all users on the computer (both roaming and local profiles).

I turn off ESET, but no change.

Google Chrome and Safe Exam Browser (based on Firefox) and works normally.
On my computer works version 70 normally (same Windows 10 - 1903).
Problem is on some classroom computers and office computers. Each classroom is made from one source clone. And on some computer, it is working and on some not. Windows update is disabled on classrooms.

How can I debug the problem?

Hey sit VSPJ,

Can you try to disable the new local storage on the affected computers and see if it helps?
You can do that by:

  1. Go to about:config
  2. Search for "dom.storage.next_gen" and set it to "false"

If that helped, you could also update to Firefox 70.0.1 which disabled this by default due to recent issues.

Hey,
computers that I look on has this already on false. And they do not work correctly either.
In classroom I tried 5 computers in row. 3 of them worked correctly and 2 not. After restart those 3 computers automatically updated to version 70.0.1 and stopped working too. So probably all classroom computers with the new version does not work. But newly installed office computer with version 70.0.1 is working.
We have computers connected to Active Directory, so maybe some incompatibility with some Group Policy.

Hey,
finally, I found the cause. It was Safetica 8.4, after upgrade to Safetica 9.1 is the problem gone.
Thank you for your assistance.

Thanks for the follow-up! Glad it got solved, closing this as resolved:invalid.
