From bug 1589900 comment #21:

Using the latest Nightly (20191106215426) I've added "-private" command to the shortcut from my desktop.
I create a new profile from the profile manager and start it up.
The search bar from about:privatebrowsing is unclickable and the google icon is missing.
This only happens when I'm using the profile for the first time, if I close and re-open FX with the same profile it works just fine.

I'm filing this separately from bug 1589900 because it's subtly different: it involves -private rather than -private-window, manually altering a desktop shortcut or invoking Firefox from the commandline, and only happens when using the profile for the first time. All of these factors make it much more of an edgecase vs. bug 1589900 (using the taskbar menu to open a private window, without any further configuration and irrespective of the age of the profile).
