User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.14; rv:70.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/70.0

Steps to reproduce:

When using web outlook (https://outlook.office.com/mail/), inputting text into emails has become sporadically delayed (laggy) since the last major Firefox update (70.0.1).

It is easy for my to reproduce by signing into outlook, creating a new email, and pressing many keys. When jumping over to chrome and repeating the test, there is no delayed input detected.

Actual results:

Text input sporadically delayed when writing emails in Outlook.

Expected results:

Text input should have no delay. Characters should show up as you type them with no human-detectable delay.

This was the behavior for Firefox 69 and Chrome 77.

I am curious if anyone else can confirm this bug.

I happened to notice this immediately after the 70.0.1 update. However, I have not yet ruled out the following possibilities:

  • An OS update caused the issue (on OS X 10.14.6)
  • An Outlook update caused the issue (I don't know how to check web outlook versions)
  • The regression was introduced when updating 69->70 (I don't have a FF 69 build to test)

I downloaded FF 69.0.3 and confirmed that this issue does not occur there.

Hi, Ben!

Thanks for your contribution!

I couldn't reproduce the described behavior in:

macOS Mojave 10.14.5
Firefox 70.0.1
Firefox Nightly 72.0a1 (2019-11-12) (64-bit)

Please let us know if this issue is reproduced in the latest Nightly edition. You can download it from here: https://nightly.mozilla.org/

If you still have the issue please create a new profile, you have the steps here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Managing-profiles#w_starting-the-profile-manager

Hi Seba,

Apologies for the delayed response. Since reporting, this issue has self-resolved within the same version of FireFox. I suspect an outlook, plugin, or OS update was responsible for the temporary regression.

Thanks!

Ben
