Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:70.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/70.0
Steps to reproduce:
Thunderbird 60.9.0 (64-bit) on Ubuntu 18.04
Download e-mails
Actual results:
During download of e-mails I get the following error lots of times (once for every mail that needs to be filtered, I guess?), and I have to click OK lots of times.
"The messages could not be filtered to folder 'Some folder' because adding a message to it failed. Verify that the folder is displaying properly or try to repair it from the folder properties."
It happens for many/all of my filter-folders.
Running filters on this Folder after the download of e-mails finished, works fine. But during download of e-mails, not so fine. Repairing the folders does not seem to help
Expected results:
Filtering during download should work, without prompting me all the time.
Alternatively wait with filtering, until after download of all e-mails.

Interesting. The bad news is that TB 60.x has come to the end of its lifecycle and we're not fixing any bugs any more. You need to switch to TB 68, currently at 68.2.2.
Yes, I have seen cases like this when a folder's MSF was empty, missing or corrupted. But in this case, repairing the folder certainly helps. There aren't any access problems? What happens if you remove the folders MSF file, then visit the folder to recreate it and then do the filtering on receipt.

Hmmm, I really did not select which TB version I wanted. Just installed whatever Ubuntu Software Installer wants to give me. Maybe that should move to 68?
Anyway, funny thing is that the problem seems to become less and less. I have repaired the folders several times, and I get less and less problems. At least it is clear, that the error does not occur every time a messages needs to be filtered to a folder. Only sometimes. Guess I will live with it, and hope it goes away completely. Thanks for responding. Ok, for me to close this ticket. I will have to upgrade to 68, and get back if the issue continues on that version, or stay at 60 and live with the consequences.
Thanks!

Hmm, could something be damaging those MSF files? TB 68 has new filter logging, so maybe we could use it to track down the problem further. I'll close the bug for now.
