I found this after investigating bug 1595797, i'm not sure if it caused this bug, so you may need to read it for some context.
firefox takes longer time than normal when i click on tabs loaded with any of these pages twitch.tv, anandtech.com, dictionary.cambridge.org and ldoceonline.com. I also see a big increase on memory for a short time.
This bug persists even after closing devtools and reloading the pages i mentioned.

if i'm not mistaken, the lags in the captured profiles appear to happen within activity-stream related code.

Did you test with a fresh profile or an existing one?
If possible to share there is some debug info that might be useful to investigate this:
- Enable
browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.asrouter.devtoolsEnabled
- Go to
about:newtab#devtools-targeting
- Use the
Copy parameters
button to get the info on the page and share it as an attachment or similar

it has some personal information that I'm unwilling to share, if you are looking to something specific in that page feel free to ask.
something important, even with the same pages that i mentioned i don't get this problem unless i keep devtools open for some amount of time, so it is very likely this bug is caused by bug 1595797.

@andrei think this is related to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1594405 ?

I don't think so. Bug 1594405 profile shows a lot of time spent in mozjexl specifically.
