Note

  • When selecting the English language as the input language in Google Translate (.ro), the voice recognition would not input any text into the input box. (Or in some rare cases, it would barely understand some of the spoken words.)

Affected versions

  • Nightly v72.0a1
  • Web Speech API not present on the other channels yet.

Affected platforms

  • All

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open the latest Nightly.
  2. Go to about:config
  3. Flip the following prefs to "true":
  • media.webspeech.recognition.enable
  • media.webspeech.recognition.force_enable
  1. Go to https://translate.google.ro/
  2. Select English as the input language.
  3. Click on the microphone icon/button.
  4. Accept the permission to use the microphone.
  5. Speak any language into the microphone.

Expected result

  • Voice recognition attempts to recognize and input English words into the input box.

Actual result

  • Nothing is being inputted into the input box.

Additional notes

  • This issue dow NOT occur on the mobile platform (Fenix v72.0a1 191115 on Android)
  • This issue does NOT occur when other languages than English are being selected on the Desktop platform.
  • The presence of the "media.webspeech.service.endpoint" pref with the "https://dev.speaktome.nonprod.cloudops.mozgcp.net/" value does not seem to influence the reproduction of the issue.
  • This issue does not occur on the Chrome browser.
  • This issue does not occur on the https://translate.google.COM/ website!
