We found a variety of bug related to how Exchange support via Owl is integrated into the account setup in Thunderbird. This bug tracks them.

I suggest to get a subscription at O365 so we can test with a (virtual) server which we can configure to our heart's content and so that we don't have to rely on "Dr. Google", M$ documentation pages, hearsay or personal accounts that some team members may or not may have access to.
