User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:70.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/70.0

Steps to reproduce:

  1. I opened Firefox today
  2. encountered a blank page (100% pure white) - no session restore, no search page with most recent pages, but a page with 100% pure white with completely nothing on it.
  3. I opened the menu (icon with the three lines far to the right) and clicked on "Preferences" as I expected to change this behaviour
  4. Nothing happens. No preferences pages opened.
  5. I opened another tab (which was 100% pure blank as well in contrast of what to expect)
  6. I again tried to open preferences. This time (!) it worked.
  7. Preferences showed: "Firefox Home" is selected if I open new tabs. Though if I open new tabs I don't get "Firefox Home" but a blank page.
  8. Regardless of what I select for "New tabs" and "Homepage and new windows" I always get a blank page.

Operating System: Ubuntu 16.04.06 LTS
Firefox: 70.0.1

Actual results:

a) The session of my last use of Firefox is lost.
b) The preferences tab should open, even if I'm on the very first tab (which wrongly is blank).
c) Regardless of what I select for "New tabs" and "Homepage and new windows" I always get a blank page.

Expected results:

a) The session of my last use of Firefox should not be lost.
b) The preferences tab should always open, not only if I have a second tab open already.
c) I should get a "Firefox Home" page if I open a new tab.

Bugbug thinks this bug should belong to this component, but please revert this change in case of error.

I know it's been a while, but can I take a look at that sessionstore.jsonlz4 file parhaps to see if I can reproduce the problem?
Did you try to restore using this file in a fresh profile?

There was a question for the original reporter in Comment #3 that I think got missed.

Yes, I did not see the question.

There is no use for me in looking for any session file: In the meanwhile I reinstalled my system. Any session file that might have been useful is definitively gone by now.

My advice: Close the issue for now. I guess it can be reopened if needed.
